Fishing Reports

Guntersville Lake - 5/3/10

In one word, "Phenomenal". That's how good the fishing is at Guntersville. Fish are shallow, on the ledges, and about everywhere in between. The Bassmasters Tour are going to smoke them big time this week.

Wheeler Lake - 4/6/10

I have not practiced on Wheeler on purpose. The fish are moving so much right now that I don't think you can stay on them for more than a few days at a location. I have talked to some folks who have been fishing Wheeler and the bite is really good. Lots of fish moving up to spawn. You can find a big female here and there, but mostly the buck bass have moved up this week. Our timing may be perfect for this upcoming weekend. I can't wait. My plan is to whack'em and stack'em and hopefully cull through enough to get 15+ lbs.

Guntersville Lake - 4/3/10

If you don't already know, Guntersville has been hot this past week. The soft plastics bite has been phenomenal. Lots of bass are spawning, but it's hard to get the big ones to bite. I have been catching (30) to (40) per day in the 2lb to 4lb class. (2) to (4) ft has been the best depth. Lizards and shakey heads have been the best baits for me. Color doesn't seem to matter much.

Wheeler Lake 3/31/10

The fish are really starting to turn on. Most productive areas are points located at creek mouths. The crankbait bite is good. Water is warming fast and I expect a big move shallow in the next few weeks. Next tournament will be fun if the weather holds. You guys are going to wear me out weighing fish in. I do not have a report for upper lake (Decatur Flats).

Lake Guntersville 3/20/10

The pre-spawn bite is in full force. I caught over (40) today on soft plastics. The key was finding a hard shell bottom. This lake is awesome, but man is it getting pressured right now. Just getting a parking spot at the ramp is a tough task.

Lake Guntersville - 2/28/10

The water has cleared in most areas and is slowly warming. More fish are moving shallow. Warmer temperatures are forecast for the upcoming tournament weekend and this should turn things on nicely. The lipless crankbait bite has improved for me along with some pretty good jerkbait action. I heard that it took 34lbs to win a tournament at Goosepond this past weekend. Looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend and good luck to all that are participating. Should be a great event if the weather holds.

Lake Guntersville - 2/21/10

The water is clearing and warming. Water temperatures are averaging in the mid to upper 40's. The fish are grouped up pretty tight when you find them. I haven't found any big groups shallow yet, but I think they are close. I expect things to really pick up in the next few days.

Lake Guntersville - 2/13/10

Fishing is slowly improving after the deep freeze that hit Alabama over the past few weeks. Some big bass are starting to show up. The water tempaerature is averaging in the low 40's and bites are few, but they are usually quality fish. Expect the fishing to pick up soon as warmer temps are forecast for next weekend. Best baits have been a lipless crankbait and a jig. The water is stained from the recent rains, but clearing. Look for the jerkbait bite to pick up after the water clears.
